Banana Granola, Your Tropical Dreams Coming True

I do have a few granola brands that I love (and you can find them here) but I also enjoy making my own granola at home as well. When we cook at home we can control which ingredients goes in the recipe and the amount of sugar that is added… many granola brands that you find in the supermarket are loaded with artificial sugars and flavors (so make sure to read the labels!).

Granola is usually so simple to make that you can have the help of your little one and turn this into a fun cooking activity.

I have been in a tropical mood lately and couldn’t resist making a “Branola”, or simply Banana Granola (?!) using dehydrated bananas from Barnana. I love these dehydrated bananas and have it at home all the time, it’s a super convenient and nutritious snack for the kids. The good thing about using dehydrated bananas (as opposed to ripe bananas mashed in) is that it will last a long time, if stored correctly in a glass jar. ;)

The recipe contains only 8 ingredients and takes about 25 minutes from start to finish. Of course you can play with the ingredients and add more of what you like most or be creative and include something else in there. Coconut flakes for example would taste amazing here! HOW TO MAKE IT

Ingredients:

  • 2 cups of rolled oats

  • 1 cup of walnuts (broken into little pieces)

  • 1 1/2 cup of dehydrated bananas

  • 1/3 cup of pumpkin seeds

  • 1/3 cup of cacao nibs

  • 1/3 cup of hemps seeds

  • 1 tsp of cinnamon

  • 1/3 cup of olive oil

  • 1/3 cup agave

Directions:

Pre heat oven to 350F.

Place oats, walnuts, pumpkin seeds, cacao nibs and cinnamon in a bowl and mix well. Note that the dehydrated bananas should be mixed only after the granola is baked otherwise they will burn in the oven. I also like to include hemp seeds only after the granola is baked so they maintain their nutritional value.

Mix agave and olive oil until very well combined.

Add the mixture to the bowl with oats (and other ingredients) and stir well.

Place the mixture in a baking pan, making sure you have one layer of granola.

Place the baking pan in the oven for 15 minutes. Once it’s ready, mix dehydrated bananas and hemp seeds. Let it cool down and enjoy!
